“A New Season” of Anti-Catholic Bigotry

To piggy back on Jim’s post regarding Penn and Teller’s most recent attack on Catholicism, I heard on the Radio this morning that there is a bit of controversy brewing at the N.Y. Metropolitan Opera House. On the Laura Ingraham Show, Raymond Arroyo reported that the Met’s new season opener, Puccini’s Tosca, features a very disturbing scene.
At the end one of the acts, the baritone who plays Baron Scarpia apparently simulates the sexual act with a statue of the Virgin Mary. When the curtain rises again, he is found caressing the statue.
You know as well as I that we would never see this type a scene perpetrated with a statue of Mohammad. But, as usual, we Christians are fair game.
I know where Bill Donahue will be on September 21st. Why don’t we each lift up a prayer in reparation for this sacrilege against our Blessed Mother:
Most glorious Virgin Mary, Mother of God and our Mother, turn thine eyes in pity upon us, miserable sinners; we are sore afflicted by the many evils tat surround us in this life, but especially do we feel our hearts break within us upon hearing the dreadful insults and blasphemies uttered against thee, O Virgin Immaculate. O how these impious sayings offend the infinite Majesty of God and of His only-begotten Son, Jesus Christ! How they provoke His indignation and give us cause to fear the terrible effects of His vengeance! Would that the sacrifice of our lives might avail to put an end to such outrages and blasphemies; were it so, how gladly we should make it, for we desire, O most holy Mother, to love thee and to honor thee with all our hearts, since this is the will of God. And just because we love thee, we will do all that is in our power to make thee honored and loved by all men. In the meantime do thou, our merciful Mother, the supreme comforter of the afflicted, accept this our act of reparation which we offer thee for ourselves and for all our families, as well as for all who impiously blaspheme thee, not knowing what they say. Do thou obtain for them from Almighty God the grace of conversion, and thus render more manifest and more glorious thy kindness, thy power and thy great mercy. May they join with us in proclaiming thee blessed among women, the Immaculate Virgin and most compassionate Mother of God. Amen.

Earlier today, Joan Behar on the View said that the Catholic Church was full of 'Boneheads'. I hope that the Catholic League picks up on that one.

Well I think it's horrible, but… Scarpia is the villain. This would certainly make you find the guy revolting and awful.(Again, I DO NOT APPROVE, but it makes a kind of sick sense, dramatically speaking.)

Hello Mr. Molina,I had just posted on my own little unknown blog about "anti-catholicism being the last acceptable prejudice". I see how true this is with fresh eyes being a Catholic Convert. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't believe you will see many Protestants being the least offended by anything that denigrates the Blessed Virgin. They like her at Christmas in Nativity scenes and will fight for the right to display the birth of Our Lord everywhere. She's also necessary to defend for the sake of the "virgin birth", but after that, like a test tube or incubator, she disappears from sight. She goes back into storage until next year, when they dust her off like the manger or one of the other props in the "Christmas Scene". She just wanders off the stage and out of the drama of Christ and Christianity. For all they care, she remarried and forgot the whole upsetting episode preferring to move on with life.If for no other reason than she gave birth to the Savior of the world, you would think they would at least care that His own mother was being treated so profanely. But then again, many of them treat her disrespectfully as well.I look forward to reading your blogposts!May the peace of Christ dwell with your spirit,Teri

no matter what the blasphemous denegrations are directed at God's holy mother, they can never take from her the honor to which she alone is given. all generations will call her blessed or they will perish. in the end her Immaculate Heart will triumph. we must defend her and her purity, for in doing so we defend all of humanity, all of motherhood, all that is good and pure in the sight of Almighty God. this is just my own personal meditation, but i believe that the Lord created her just for us. he did not need the Blessed Virgin Mary to redeem mankind, no, He is Almighty. but in the creation of Mary, he looked to our needs knowing how much we would need a perfect mother after our first mother was unable to say yes to God. Jesus never committed any selfish act. always giving and forgiving. The Blessed Virgin Mary is a great gift to struggling mankind, the devil knows this is true. he preys upon the weakness of men to debase them and to defile her. but his evil works are for naught, as his insults grow in boldness, so her qualities grow in luminescense until the whole world will ask the question – "why would anyone hate the Blessed Virgin Mary so much?" and then her light which is the light of Christ will shine forth like the dawn in the hearts of men and they will know The Mother's love.

I'll bet its a calculated effort to show all Catholics as villains and devotion to the Virgin Mary as disordered. Kinda like you see in movies where the mass murderer goes on and on about his "Lord and Savior Jesus Christ"

Disgusting! I wrote a little about the current perversity of the arts in one of my posts the other day. This just proves the point.

why people think it is ok to hurt us is unbelieveable..until we remember: Those who choose HIM will be attacked and reviled by the world. We must be doing something right to be so hated by this world.May Our Lord have mercy on those who hate, and give us the strength to carry this part of His cross.
